Here’s the best part about staying where we do: you’re not stuck with just one beach. Within an easy drive of Siesta Dreams, you can shell on Sanibel, spot manatees at Lovers Key, watch shorebirds on the Bunche Beach flats, or plant your umbrella on 7 miles of Fort Myers Beach sand, all in the same week.

Fort Myers Beach: 7 Miles of Easy Beach Days
The beach on Estero Island is the classic Southwest Florida beach day: powder-soft white sand, gentle waves, shallow water that’s great for kids, and a sunset over the Gulf every single evening. It’s been renourished since the storms and looks fantastic.
A few things to know right now:
- Crescent Beach Family Park (1100 Estero Blvd) reopened in July 2026 with shaded seating, picnic tables, and bike racks. It’s right by Times Square, so lunch and live music are a short walk away.
- The north end is the island’s quiet stretch, with views across the water toward Sanibel. Bowditch Point Park closed for restoration in September 2026, but you can still walk that end of the beach from the south side, near the Pink Shell Resort.
- Lynn Hall Park and the Times Square beach access are fenced off while the new pier is built (expected around fall 2027).
- Public beach accesses dot Estero Blvd all along the island, so you can always find a quieter patch of sand by heading south.
Local tip: with the Lynn Hall lot closed, parking near Times Square fills fast. From Siesta Dreams, it’s a 2-minute walk to the trolley stop and a 75-cent ride to the beach. Lee County also suggests the Beach Park & Ride on Summerlin Square Drive if you’re coming from elsewhere.
Nature Beaches: Bunche Beach, Lovers Key & Points South
Bunche Beach Preserve
18201 John Morris Rd, Fort Myers · about 10 minutes away
Our closest beach, and a different kind of beach day. There are no houses along the shore, just a natural preserve on San Carlos Bay. At low tide, wide sandy flats open up, and the birding is some of the best in Southwest Florida (it’s on the Great Florida Birding Trail). It’s not a classic swimming beach, but it’s wonderful for a sunset stroll, a paddle, or a quiet morning with binoculars. Feeling adventurous? Siesta Dreams guests can kayak there straight from our property.
- Parking: $2 per hour at the time of writing (Lee County, pay with the Premium Parking app or by text)
- Good to know: there’s a kayak launch and restrooms
Lovers Key State Park
8700 Estero Blvd, Fort Myers Beach · about 20 to 25 minutes away
Just south of the island, Lovers Key has over 2 miles of quiet beach, trails through the mangroves, and calm water where manatees graze and dolphins swim past. It’s a favorite for families and anyone who wants nature with their beach day. (It’s also the inspiration for our Lover’s Key Suite.)
- Hours and fees: 8 a.m. to sunset daily, and $8 per vehicle at the time of writing
- Getting to the sand: the beach tram has been retired, so it’s about a 1,000-foot walk from parking lot #1 over the Mid-Beach Wood Bridge
- Pack a picnic: since May 2026 there’s no food, gift shop, or bait shop in the park, but kayak, fishing, and beach gear rentals are available daily
Bonita Beach
Bonita Springs · about 25 to 30 minutes away
A classic, family-friendly Gulf beach. Heads up for fall 2026: the Bonita Beach Park lot is closed for restoration. Lee County suggests parking at the Publix at Bonita Beach Rd and US-41 and riding LeeTran’s on-demand ULTRA vans to the sand, or walking in through Bonita Beach Access #1.
Barefoot Beach Preserve
505 Barefoot Beach Blvd, Bonita Springs · about 35 to 40 minutes away
A 342-acre undeveloped barrier island that feels like Florida before the condos. It’s open year-round from 8 a.m. to sunset, with beach chair and umbrella rentals.
- Parking: $10 per vehicle for visitors at the time of writing (Collier County)
- Good to know: no dogs allowed
Sanibel & Captiva Beaches: Shelling Paradise
Sanibel’s beaches are world-famous for shelling, and the Sanibel Causeway is only about 10 minutes from Siesta Dreams, with no Fort Myers Beach bridge to cross. You’ll pay a toll on the causeway, and parking on the islands is paid by app, so have your phone ready.
Lighthouse Beach Park
110 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel · about 20 minutes away
Right at the east end of Sanibel, just off the causeway, with the island’s iconic lighthouse, good shelling, and wide-open shoreline. It’s the easiest Sanibel beach for a half-day trip.
Bowman’s Beach
1700 Bowman’s Beach Rd, Sanibel · about 30 to 35 minutes away
No houses, no high-rises, just a natural beach and a short, scenic walk from the parking lot. This is one of the best shelling beaches on the island, so bring a bag (and a little patience).
Blind Pass
Between Sanibel and Captiva · about 35 minutes away
Where Sanibel meets Captiva, Blind Pass is a top spot for both shelling and fishing. Parking is limited, so get there early.
Captiva Beach
Captiva · about 40 to 45 minutes away
Drive through charming little Captiva village to reach the end of the road, where the sunsets are legendary. The lot is small and fills up fast, so plan to arrive well before the sun goes down.

Beach Tips From Your Hosts
- Have your phone ready for parking. At the time of writing, Lee County beach lots charge $2 an hour through the Premium Parking app, by text, or online (some lots don’t have kiosks back yet). Sanibel’s lots are also paid by app.
- Shell like a pro. The best finds show up at low tide, early in the morning, and after a winter cold front or a stormy day. Just leave anything that’s still alive (including live sand dollars and sea stars) right where you found it. Collecting live shells isn’t allowed in Lee County.
- Do the stingray shuffle. Slide your feet along the bottom as you wade in. It gently lets stingrays know you’re coming so they can scoot away.
- Check the water before you go. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission posts current red tide conditions, and Florida Healthy Beaches posts water-quality results.
- Be turtle-friendly. From May through October, sea turtles nest on our beaches. Fill in any holes, take your gear home at night, and keep lights off the beach after dark.
- Pack light. Siesta Dreams guests can grab beach chairs, beach towels, and even a soft-sided cooler before heading out. Just add sunscreen, water, and snacks.
Beach FAQ
It depends on your day. For an easy beach day, Fort Myers Beach. For shelling, Bowman’s Beach on Sanibel. For nature and manatees, Lovers Key State Park. For sunsets, Captiva Beach.
Yes. The beach has been renourished and is open. The beach access at Times Square and Lynn Hall Park are closed while the new pier is built, and Bowditch Point Park closed for restoration in September 2026, but the rest of the beach is open and accessible.
Bowman’s Beach and Blind Pass on Sanibel are the top picks. Go at low tide, early in the morning, especially after a cold front.
At most of them, yes. As of October 2026, Lee County beach lots charge $2 an hour, Lovers Key State Park charges $8 per vehicle, Barefoot Beach Preserve charges $10 for visitors, and Sanibel’s lots are paid by app. Rates can change, so check before you go.
Look for them in the calm, shallow water around Lovers Key State Park and in the back bays. In the cooler months, Manatee Park in Fort Myers is your best bet.
Barefoot Beach Preserve, Bunche Beach Preserve, and Bowman’s Beach all have no houses along the shore and far fewer crowds.
